Kids in their 30's still at home with parents
Ok my partners son is 33, looks like he ain't going anywhere fast.

Good news is she is now beginning to realise this isn't right lol

Any ideas on how to move this situation along without just packing his shit up and throwing him out?

open to all ideas to cheer me up

Sign of the times, property in the south east is out of reach for most and communtin costs are so high.

Re: Kids in their 30's still at home with parents
I moved in with my missus and her family at the age of 23 (May 2014) and then we saved like mad for the next few months by basically doing fuck all else, and bought a 2 bedroom flat in September 2014. It is doable very quickly if you make sacrifices, obviously we were saving (well she was) prior to that anyway. I was massively in debt and fighting court cases and paying fines and all sorts.

Personally I wouldn't want to rent because of what has happened to my family in the past, constantly moving and struggling to call a place home. They're still struggling now these past few years going place to place temporarily.

Ron - Realistically, no. Too old at 45 to get on the mortgage ladder and wouldn't want to anyway. Wouldn't want to rent either as for one it's expensive and two I wouldn't want to rent forever when everyone else ends up owing their house outright and I'm still renting. The only way I could come back is to buy a house outright and I'm nowhere near and probably wouldn't want to as if I had say 400k I might as well live in a lap of luxury over here. At some point in the future I may consider buying a 1 bed flat so at least I'd have that as an option in the future, but even that is 200k

Cant remember which MP it was but basically said he bought his first property in London, A flat for 9 k in 1971. His Salary was 5k.

Now the same flat is worth 700k and his wages would compare to someone today earning 25k a year.

I am not surprised people well into their 30s are still at home.

Don't forget the sort of shitholes we moved into 40 odd years ago - hot water was non existent, electricity was an optional extra and heating was a single bar electric fire.
Of the 8 of us, who moved in together, no one had a car, a phone or a tv and between us we had 1 radio and 1 music system.
Didn't feel hard done by, cause nobody we knew, including our folks had cars or phones in their homes.
We had fuck all, can't say we were happier but ar least we did more than stick photos of ourselves on snapchat all fucking day long.

I know plenty of girls who still live at home in their 30's, daddy's girls who pay no rent and all their income goes on going out, their car and clothes.

Re: Kids in their 30's still at home with parents
Some of the issues are kids nowadays see these z list "celebs" and want to be like them, but also want to buy a house etc as well. I know someone who has just moved out at 35 and has nothing to show for it. Even saving £250 a month he'd have had at least £50k by now. But no, he just spunked his cash each month.

House prices are stupid though. We moved 3.5 yrs ago to a 3 bed in reading. Girl from work is paying the same for a 1 bed down the rd.

Could you have done it if you were 18 now though? Considering it costs over a grand to rent a shitty bedsit in dagenham?

I was lobbed out of Dr Barnardos age 21, had to find my own two feet straight away, didn't do me any harm, in fact it made me very independent

Did it earlier this year, under no pressure from me mum and dad who were fucking superb about the whole thing. Said I was more than welcome to stay or would help with the move, I just wanted to do it.
It's costing me a fortune but overall I'm enjoying it and speak with them most days.

Got to make it tough for them - pay their way fully, that means contributing to all the bills, doing housework, not having drinking sessions with their mates, not doing drugs and not bringing back their Saturday night pick ups for a ride.
They will soon see living in some shitty room is a better option and will thank you forever for the empowerment and independence you have given them

To be honest a lot of the ones living independently are having money pumped in continually to make it work.

PD, no meaning to pry but you reckon you could come back to england?

Re: those house sharing.....I had a mate of mine ask if i'd house share and pay a mortgage a few years ago, and recently a married couple in london asked if i'd move to fulham with my bird, and own 30% each, while paying 40% rent on the place.

Just a few years ago it was cheaper to buy a place in Barcelona and fly to work in London, than it was to rent in london and go to work. You were able to save about £300-400 quid living in Barcelona too. It's madness.

''Sooner or later you'll have houses with married couples or non married people living together and paying mortgages together''

Interesting point that, Ron.
